Isudo (이수도) is a very small island and it’s very famous for “ONE NIGHT THREE MEAL”. Local tourists spend a night there or go there for fishing. The island itself is also good for hiking (an easy one!)
The island didn’t appear much on “English” information when I tried to google (2018-2021), we never heard about this island from anyone we know in Goeje (even some of our Korean friends didn’t know about this).
But we saw the island when we went to Maemiseong (Man-made Castle).
So we stopped to check out at the ferry ticket booth in Sibang village but we didn’t understand the Korean. So we went back to have our friend find out more info for us.
Again, Tammy made the phone call for us and what we found out was:
You can’t reserve the tickets, the ticket is available for First Come First Serve.
The ferry will NOT operate during rain, storms, typhoons, or too windy, it depends on weather conditions. You can call to check this number 010-7441-8085
The ferry is a daily service to Isudo departs every 2hours, starting from 8:00-18:00hrs during the months of Feb-May and Sep-Oct. From June-August, there is an additional boat at 19:00hrs and from Nov-Jan, the last departs at the earlier time of 17:20hrs. For the return trip to Geoje, ferries depart Isudo at 50 minutes past the hour.
We went there in late January 2021, it’s a cold but beautiful day.
From our apartment in Okpo (Geoje Island), it’s about a 20-25 mins drive to the pier (next to Maemiseong Castle). BRING YOUR ID/ALIEN CARD WITH YOU!
Our trip–> We left the house at about 11 am and get there about 11.25 am, we got the tickets for the 12.00 pm departure. Our plan was to walk/hike around the island and get back to the pier to take a ferry at 1.50 pm back to Geoje at about 2 pm.
— Totally, we spent about 3-3.5hrs on this trip
The Ticket office is at Sibang Village, you have to fill out your name/DOB/Phone number and show your id to purchase the ferry ticket.
The ticket is for a ROUND TRIP, we paid 8000won each (Children & Elderly will be cheaper!)
We received 2 copies of tickets, Yellow is for go to Isudo, Pink is for return back to the main island. But you don’t have to remember this, they will pick one out from your hand!
The boat ride is less than 10 mins to Isudo Island, a very short ride!
When you get off the boat, you can pick to go to LEFT OR RIGHT. But we were recommended to start to turn to the LEFT. (most of the Locals are going to the RIGHT because they are going to check-in at the Pensions).
If you go left, stay left, there’s kind of a fork around the first turn and if you right it leads to a pension. After you pass the pension the trail is more obvious.
The hike here is very easy. It’s also better to bring hiking sticks!
We had good luck, it’s a clear day today and we can see some great scenic views of the Geoje coast-line and the fantastic bridge.
I read some blog, they said it used to have Deer Farm on this island, that’s why there are so many deer-shaped benches!
We were thinking about bringing our dogs to walk here!
When we walked about halfway or about 30-45mins, we arrived at the suspension bridge, it’s small but it’s awesome!
We took a bunch of pictures on that bridge LOL.
Water is very rough, it’s a little thrilled to walk over the suspension bridge.
Then we kept walking to the Observation Tower, it’s a 3 story open-sided wooden house. There is a cemetery right next to it…(it would be a little creepy at night!)
There no shops to stop, you better prepare water and some snacks with you! (they might have some shops in the Pensions area but we didn’t get into that main area today)
When we started seeing more houses or pensions, it means we almost done with one round of hiking over Isudo Island.
Before getting back to the pier, we pass many pensions and a school.
To walk one round of the island, we took about 1hr 20mins, it was 3.5km walking. We stopped to take a lot of pictures though…
Fisherman Village…
We didn’t walk across the island – we just wanted to run back to the ferry at 1.50pm (because if we missed this one, the next one will be the next 2 hrs!)
We had enough for today!
Keep in mind, the Locals like to come to catch the Sunrise and Sunset, so it might be a little crowded during those times .
I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND YOU COME TO SPEND YOUR DAY HERE!!!
