The traditional Vietnamese street market in New Orleans, the Market is in a parking lot of Alcee Fortier Blvd.
The market starts early and only in the Saturday morning like 5am!!! No kidding!
Address: 4861 Alcee Fortier Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70129
I read something on the internet that the Vietnamese families in the area have been tending to their own gardens and small farms since they moved to this area in the mid 70’s!!!
And I’m so glad that I (Thai) have them as neighbors in New Orleans! We normally go to this area to get some Asian groceries and stop at the famous bakery shop but we never knew about the farmers market.
Today (5/14/2022) we went there after 7am, some vendors started packing and leaving already!!!
Most of the stuff we saw today were local vegetables, fish, plants or Vietnamese snacks….
I bought the Thai Jasmine and some basils from this market…
As I mentioned, the vendors were packing and leaving…(7.17am)
Tim also got some flower plant at $45 from this market…
It wasn’t really a GRAND WOW farmer market for me. I’m not sure I want to get up early and go there again at 5am – I’m not sure there it will be much different from what I saw at 7am.
If I live very far away from this area, I won’t make the trip to go here…
Unless, you want to stop to the Asian shops. I found a new one at this farmer market, “Ly’s supermarket”. It’s new and clean inside.
There are also 2-3 more shops in the same area which have plenty of Asian treats and cooking materials.
During we were visiting the Farmer market, most of the Asian shops in this area were open and busy even it was early and before 8am!
I will post more about the Asian shops in New Orleans East…
