Have you ever heard about Geoje Island in South Korea?
>>ภาษาไทย
Dec 3, 2019. We now officially moved from Haeundae (Busan) to Geoje Island, South Korea.
Geoje Island is the second largest Island after Jeju Island in South Korea. Geoje sounds like KOJE, but spelling as GEOJE. Geoje Island or Geoje do, because “do” means “Island”.
The Closest international airport for Geoje is “Gimhae International Airport” as known as BUSAN Airport. It will take about an hour from Geoje to the airport, Taxi would cost $100-$150.
Geoje Island is about 402 km2 , it will take about 50-60 mins to drive from North to South of the island.
There were rumors of an underwater tunnel being built to Japan!
Actually, it’s an underwater tunnel between Geoje Island to Busan.
From Busan to Okpo, we have to drive through 8 tunnels (included the underwater tunnel!). And ~$10-15 toll fee!
KTX (Speed train) in Geoje? Ummm, yes! But maybe in 2028!?!? But if so, it will take only 2 hrs from Geoje to Seoul!
Right now, the best way to go to Seoul is by Bus, and it takes about 4.5 hrs.
Geoje Island’s nickname is BLUE CITY. (Haeundae is SUN CITY).
Geoje is home for 2 big shipyards, Samsung and DSME.
Geoje is where President Moon Jae-in was born!
The Two largest areas in Geoje are OKPO on the east coast and Gohyeon on the west. Gohyeon is Geoje’s Downtown but Okpo is where we live!
Okpo is a very small city but very convenient for foreigners.
In Geoje (or maybe in South Korea), the city names ending with “Po” means the city on the coastline. Because “Po” means a little port.
To compare between Okpo and Haeundae by Starbucks shops in 1km radius from where we live. (In South Korea, the more Starbucks you find, the more city you are!)
Oyster Soup (Gool Gook bab) is very popular in Geoje. There are also many other oyster options including oyster pancakes, and raw oysters.
There are only 2 big shopping malls in Geoje, Lotte Mart and Home Plus. Our building is connected to Lotte Mart, but it’s only 15mins drive to Home Plus. There are many supermarkets all around the island as well.
Down to the main street of Okpo, you can find an abandoned amusement park which it was popular in 1990s but was closed after a series of horrific
Top 5 Beaches in Geoje 1. Gujora Beach 2. Wahyeon Beach 3. Deokpo Beach 4. Hakdong Pebble Beach and 5. Yeocha Pebble Beach.
We plan to visit a least one island a month, so it will take almost a year to visit all the small islands around Geoje!
~2years from now, we hope to show you that South Korea has not only Seoul, Busan or Jeju but GEOJE too!!!
